Pichelmu!

Hola Everyone!
Sorry it has been a few days since an update. We are still here in Pichelmu, but do not have internet access at our hostel (or anywhere really). We are really enjoying this place, but plan to move on tomorrow to Pucon. Pichelmu is a very rural costal community, that is a mecca for surfing in Chile. There is a very famous break here called Punta De Lobos, which draws the absoulte best surfers in the world (check out a clip on youtube). We have had a few good days in the water (obviously surfing a different beach), as there is not much else in this town. Right now the small community has exploded with Chilean tourists, so there is a fun nightlife. Otherwise this place is similar to tofino, in that it has a very small resident population. Cant chat for long because we are on a time limit, so we will check in when we reach Pucon. Lots of love to everyone,
Tai and Kash

  1. Andrzej and Barbara are back in Nanaimo. Now we now are trying to decipher the logic of following Email I received from Sydney:

It's a slow day in a dusty little Australian town. The sun is beating down and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich tourist from down south is driving through town , stops at the local motel and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

He gives him keys to a few rooms and as soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the $100 bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his drinks bill at the local pub.
The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar , who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.

The hooker rushes to the motel and pays off her room bill to the motel owner with the $100 ..

The motel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, picks up the $100 bill, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything.

However, the whole town is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the Australian Government's stimulus package works.

  2. With Goggle I looked at the posted pictures from Pucon. The hot spring, horseback riding and walk up the mountain or volcano, these what I would choose when I were you. That place look spectacular. How much Canadian dollar do I need to spend comfortably four weeks down there? Horsebackride in the Mapuche Indian Comunity Quelhue. Hot Springs, it is one of the easiest centres to reach, because the International Road runs only a few kms from these hot springs. It has an open-air swimming pool as well as an indoor one, individual tubs, massage and sauna services. There is a restaurant, cabins and facilities that make this hot spring centre a good choice to visit with the whole family.
Location: 29 kms from Pucón on the way to Curarrehue, in the Trancura river valley.

Getting there: the first 27 kms are paved and then, after passing through Catripulli, cross the San Luis bridge and continue for another 2 kms along a good gravel road, passing the Termas Río Trancura. There are frequent public buses running along the International Road. You have to get off at the San Luis bridge and then take an easy walk or hitch-hike to the hot springs
