A Quick Stop in San Fernando

Hola,
An important life lesson that we have learned time and again is that you never know when misfortune is actually good fortune in desguise. The last two days have been a great example of this. We originally planned on leaving our surf haven Pichelmu on Saturday, but with our "fly by the seat of our pants" montra, we were unable to book a bus out untill today (sunday). At first glance this was frustrating and was hindering progress, however the extra day spent in Pichelmu was agreeably the best day of the trip thus far. We bused out to that famous surf break I mentioned, Punta De Lobos, and witnessed the largest waves we have ever seen in our lives. Only a handfull of surfers (3 to be exact) were brave enough in the 3 or 4 hours we watched to surf the monster waves. The point is picturesque beyond description, as two massive rocks jett upwards about 30ft from shore. Covered with huge Herons, the rocks and the surf are more than breath taking. Picutres are coming. After watching in awe for a few hours, we grabbed a coffee and hit the surf (farther down the beach). Today began with more apparent misfortune, as a bus mishap delayed our departure by two hours. Then upon arriving in San Fernando (to transfer buses to our next destination Pucon) we found out the only bus leaving today was not untill 1145pm (a 10 hour wait). After cursing chile and our still floundering spanish, we ended up stumbling on a great local festival of tradtional foods, artisans and beer. We spent the day lounging in the sun drinking Chilean microbrewery beer, eating amazing local food, listening to live music and taking it all in. So hopefully our luck continues as we now move south. We plan to set up shop in Pucon, an outdoor rec mecca for everything, for a few days. The main feature of the area is Villicara volcanoe, the most active in south america, so we plan to hike that maybe tomorrow. We will likely pic up some outdoor gear soon, as we plan on doing some 3 and 4 day trecks. Bring on the glaciers, volcanoes and hot springs. As amazing as this all sounds, everyday we wish we were home and have questioned why we are here already a few times. There really is no place like home, especailly when home is Vancouver Island. We dream of Misha most nights and miss our wondefull friends and family. Zigmunt gets the award for keeping this a two way conversation, as he keeps us connected to life in Nanaimo. More to come in Pucon and hopefully some pictures.
Lots of Love
Tai and Kash

  1. Hey! Sounds like you guys are having so much fun. The surf sounds amazing. I actually just watched an awesome surf movie on netflicks called Stepping Into Liquid. Super awesome and showcased Chile and the surf spot that you were speaking of. Tai you've probably gotten an update from your mom but Grandma's birthday went really well. My mom and Ryan surprised aunty sonja and her and they had the whole crew for chinese food. I guess Bryan, Kristen and Erin are all doing well! I couldn't make it unfortunately due to midterms :( But still looking forward to going out there in the summer. The festival sounds amazing in San Fernando!! If you two are heading to Argentina watch out for the locals street dancing. Apparently there are random courtyards that play music and you can watch some amazing tango and flamenco dancers. Weathers been alright here in Van. Pretty rainy but of course that means lotsa of snow on the the mountains :) Mt.Washington is extending their season so if your back in time you may be able to catch the last weekend of shredding. Anyways I should be going. Have fun in Pucon! And take lots of pictures of Volcano's!! Miss you two and stay safe xoxo
